CEUS: This program is offered for 3 CE hours of social work continuing education through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Social Work, a Council on Social Work Education accredited school and therefore a PA pre-approved provider of social work continuing education. Title: Ethics in the Treatment of Trauma 

Objective 1: Participants will learn foundational information about trauma treatment, and be able to demonstrate increase in knowledge in post-training quiz. 

Objective 2: Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of working with attachment wounding and dissociation in effective trauma treatment, and be able to demonstrate increase in knowledge in post-training quiz. 

Objective 3: Participants will explore how trauma work can be activating for the therapist and cause countertransference, and be able to demonstrate increase in knowledge in post-training quiz. 

Objective 4: Participants will learn how to self-regulate and maintain the IFS concept of self-energy in sessions with traumatized clients. Participants will be able to demonstrate increased knowledge in post-training quiz. 

Objective 5: Participants will learn ways of assessing for and avoiding ethical dilemmas that can arise during trauma treatment. Participants will be able to demonstrate increase in knowledge in post-training quiz. 

Objective 6: Participants will be able to demonstrate an increase in knowledge around when to make a referral, attending continuing education training, and get consultation on cases in post-training quiz.

9:00am- 9:45am Brief overview of Trauma, Attachment, and Dissociation

9:45am- 9:50am 5 Minute Break

9:50am- 10:30am Managing Therapist Countertransference and Utillizing Self-regulation Skills

10:30am- 11:30am Ethics: Informed Consent, Appropriate Boundaries, Measures to take in Termination or Referrals

11:30am- 11:40am 10 Minute Break

11:40am- 12:00pm Ethics: Competence


Trainer Bios: 

Brooke Eaton Lewis is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Co-Founder of Pittsburgh Center for Integrative Therapy. Brooke is an EMDRIA approved EMDR trainer and consultant who specializes in complex trauma, attachment, and dissociation across the life span. Currently Brooke blends her training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, and EMDR to provide Integrative EMDR Intensive Therapy to clients in the United States.

Lauren H. Steele is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Co-Founder of Pittsburgh Center for Integrative Therapy. Lauren is an EMDRIA-certified EMDR Therapist and Somatics Practitioner who specializes in treating adults with complex and developmental trauma, and dissociative symptoms. Currently Lauren incorporates her training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, and EMDR to provide Integrative EMDR Intensive Therapy to clients in the United States.
